The VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP) is available to veterans enrolled in VA health care and CHAMPVA beneficiaries who do not otherwise qualify for free VA dental care. All three VADIP plan tiers — Prime, Enhanced, and Comprehensive — provide 100% in-network coverage for preventive services including cleanings, oral exams, and X-rays, with the higher-tier plans extending to a broader range of basic and major restorative services. The program is administered through Delta Dental, and members choose a plan tier during annual enrollment periods.
VADIP was made permanent for eligible veterans and their dependents through legislation in 2021, establishing a lasting dental insurance option for those who may not qualify for comprehensive VA dental treatment. According to the American Dental Association, VADIP was specifically created to expand access to affordable oral health care for veterans who might otherwise go without.
